JOB SUMMARY: The Director of Community Life, Membership and Leadership Development will provide coordination, organization, and structural support to facilitate and further develop volunteer-driven ministries at the Spirit of St. Stephen's Catholic Community. This role focuses on driving community growth and leadership development, leading to a stronger, more engaged membership base and empowered volunteers.
WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:

Reports To: Spirit of St. Stephen's Community Council through Council Chair.

Works With: Education and Formation Coordinator; Worship Coordinator, Council, Committees of the Board; Spirit and New Branches staff, Spirit members, and Spirit member leaders.

Evaluation By: 360 review process lead by council leadership
RESPONSIBILITIES:

Develop and lead a process for identifying new leaders among Spirit members; inviting members into leadership roles;training/developing volunteer leaders; and supporting volunteer leadership.

Build a committee of Spirit volunteer leaders to learn about strategies for congregational growth and drive a robust outreach initiative to attract and retain new members.

Strategize with volunteer leaders to deepen and expand Spirit’s online community.

Work with volunteer leaders to sustain and grow pastoral ministries.

Provide support to community members as needed.

Work with Council leadership to reassess committee structure and implement plans to develop new committees and sustain existing committees.

Ensure coordination and connection between committees

Supervise staff (Worship Coordinator and Education and Formation Coordinator) take responsibility for staff development, and manage relationships with contractors

Build working relationships with New Branches staff and leadership and Blooming Heart Sangha leadership.

Plan Spirit's participation in local events (such as Pride) including volunteer recruitment and scheduling, logistics handling, and ensuring representation aligns with our Spirit's mission and vision.

Carry out administrative tasks including volunteer scheduling; Storage of online materials; etc.

Develop a program for new members to introduce them to who we are and what we believe (in partnership with volunteer leaders)

Monitor and train Spirit members in use of SOSSCC document storage.

Provide reports to Community Council at monthly Council meetings
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Because we want to talk with a broad range of candidates, there is no educational requirement for this job. We are looking for candidates that have lived experience with:
● Identifying, recruiting, developing, and supporting volunteer leaders prioritizing liturgy and education and formation program areas
● Building membership programs meant to recruit new members and put them on a path toward taking responsibility for the work of the community
● Collaborative work in partnership with teams, committees, etc.
● Work that involves prioritizing multiple significant priorities
● Demonstrates flexibility, creativity, diplomacy, and patience
● Ability to plan and organize work to meet weekly priorities
● Social justice work (advocacy, community organizing, grassroots lobbying, etc.)

● Leadership development
Other qualities a strong candidate might have include:
● Previous experience with Church ministry, especially in the Catholic context
● Familiarity with Spirit as a congregation
● Advanced degree in divinity, religion, or related field
● Understanding of Catholic social teaching
● Knowledge of or curiosity about the teachings of Vatican II
● Experience putting the teachings of Vatican II into practice as it relates to lay engagement in leadership
● Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
