Pastoral Assistant for Liturgy, Outreach & Adult Sacraments

POSITION PURPOSE: In direct collaboration with the Pastor, Parish Staff, and People of Holy Disciples & Our Lady of Good Counsel Churches, the Pastoral Assistant for Liturgy, Pastoral Care & Outreach, & Adult Sacraments, contributes to the proclamation of the Gospel and the building up of the Kingdom of God by assisting the Pastor’s leadership and ministry. 

I.  MAJOR  PASTORAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. COORDINATES THE LITURGICAL MINISTRIES OF THE PARISH
  • Oversees the music ministry. Arranging for accompanists for liturgies as needed.
  • Meets quarterly with Music Directors. 
  • Resources the leaders of each of the liturgical ministries.
  • Assists with formulating the training documents for each liturgical ministry.
     
  1. COORDINATES ADULT SACRAMENTAL PREPARATION PROGRAMS
  • Recruit, form, support, and guide RCIA/Adult Confirmation Team
  • Coordinate and participate in all sessions and retreats
  • Provide catechetical resources
  • Work with Liturgy Team in preparation for the celebration of the Rites
  • Conduct initial interviews with all inquirers

 

  1. COORDINATES SMALL COMMUNITIES OF FAITH (ADULT FAITH FORMATION)
  • Recruit, form, support and guide Core Team members and facilitators
  • Approve curriculum and provide resources
  • Assist with recruitment of participants

 

  1. COORDINATES PASTORAL CARE MINISTRIES
  • Assures regularly scheduled personal visitation to homebound
  • Recruit, form, support, and guide Eucharistic Ministers to the Sick
  • Assist in scheduling Communal Celebrations of the Sacrament of the Sick

 

  1. OVERSEES FUNERAL MINISTRY
  • Meet with family to plan celebration of the Rite of Christian Burial
  • Provide for the celebration of the Vigil in the absence of a priest
  • Assist with arrangements for receptions following the funeral services
  • Provide family grief support as appropriate

 

II. MAJOR ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Serves as staff resource person for various consultative groups including Liturgy Committee.

 

III  ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND EXPECTATIONS

 

  1. ATTENDANCE AT MEETINGS
  • Full participation at all meetings of Parish Staff is required
  • Regular attendance at Liturgy Committee meetings is expected

 

  1. PARTICIPATION AT WEEKEND LITURGIES
  • Visible presence before and after all weekend parish liturgies is expected.

 

  1. PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
  • Maintain a level of knowledge and skills required for this position through reading appropriate materials, and attending workshops and conventions.

 

  1. OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED

 

ABOUT THE EMPLOYER

Holy Disciples is a young parish having been established in 1996 with just over 1000 families and three weekend Masses.  Our mission parish is in Eatonville, situated at the base of Mt. Rainier in the beautiful Pacific Northwest.  We are just outside the Seattle/Tacoma Core in South Hill Puyallup but close enough to easily access the big city attractions.  We are a progressive Vatican II parish that embraces the leadership of Pope Francis.

We have an opening for a Pastoral Assistant for Liturgy, Outreach and Adult Sacraments (PA) who will be a full-time member of the Pastoral Staff and report to the Pastor. They will be responsible for the OCIA/RCIA process.  The PA will provide Adult Faith Formation, Outreach and Pastoral Care facilitation and liturgy oversight, including resourcing and coordinating our choir directors.

This ministry position is a direct report to the Pastor and is responsible for the success of the parish outreach, adult sacraments and liturgy programs.  The PA will work collaboratively with other staff members and volunteers, as needed.

Applicant must be a practicing Roman Catholic, committed to the teachings and mission of the Church, and to sharing these effectively with others. In addition, a qualified applicant will have:

  • A degree in ministry, religious studies, theology or related field.
  • Experience as a ministry leader
  • Familiarity with Scripture and basic Church documents regarding catechesis and evangelization, and with the latest models of faith formation and evangelizing strategies, programs and technologies
  • A commitment to ongoing professional development and formation
  • Ability to inspire and work with volunteers and staff
  • Creativity, flexibility, joy and enthusiasm in evangelizing people at all stages of faith development including the unchurched
  • Management, leadership, collaboration, and group process skills
  • Strong communication and organization skills
  • Proficiency with MS Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Working knowledge of (or ability to learn) ParishStaq database and other relevant website tools
